Midlife

New Year: Reclaiming Resolutions: Midlife and Menopause as a Time of Becoming

Every January, we are flooded with resolutions: lose weight, exercise more, do better. But for South Asian women in midlife, these lists can feel heavy. After decades of putting others first, the New Year becomes less about becoming someone new and more about returning to who we are.

Midlife and menopause can feel destabilising. The hormonal changes, fatigue, and emotional shifts often collide with cultural expectations: to remain selfless, to keep going, to never complain. In South Asian families, where silence around women’s health is still common, many of us enter the New Year carrying not excitement, but exhaustion.

But what if we redefined the New Year as a softer, more soulful beginning? What if instead of punishing resolutions, we made gentle commitments? To rest. To nourish. To say no without guilt. To surround ourselves with women who remind us that midlife is not the end of our story but the beginning of our becoming.

This year, let’s choose intentions that honour both our bodies and our heritage. Let’s celebrate resilience, yes, but also tenderness, vulnerability, and joy.

At The Sattva Collective CIC, we are here to remind South Asian women that the New Year doesn’t need a “new you.” It needs the real you, present, powerful, and ready to rise.

Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with clarity, courage, and compassion. May this year be a reminder that midlife is not an ending, but a powerful new chapter, one where you honour your body, embrace your truth, and shine with the wisdom only you carry. Here’s to growth, joy, and becoming more of who you truly are x
