Good Girls Don’t Talk About This. Until Now.

There is a book coming.

Good Girls Don’t Talk About This. Until Now. Breaking the Silence on South Asian Women, Midlife and Menopause

I have been sitting with this quietly for a little while now, turning it over, feeling its weight and rightness. And now it is time to say it out loud.

For generations of South Asian women, midlife has been something to endure in silence. Bodies are changing without explanation. Identities shifting without permission. The deep, interior world of a woman in her forties and fifties folded away, undiscussed, unwitnessed, unnamed.

Good girls didn’t talk about it.

Until now.

What This Book Is

Good Girls Don’t Talk About. Until Now. This is not a self-help book. It is not a medical guide. It is not a memoir.

It is all three, woven together, for a South Asian woman who has never quite seen herself in a book before.

It holds my own voice and deeply personal essays. The perspectives of experts who understand the intersection of culture, health, and identity. And the real stories of South Asian women, gathered through the My Sattva Story campaign, who were never meant to carry this alone.

This book explores:

  • The cultural silence around women’s health and midlife experience, and where it comes from

  • The physical and hormonal reality of perimenopause and menopause through a South Asian lens

  • Identity, who we are when we stop performing, and who we are becoming

  • The relationships that shift, break open, and deepen in midlife

  • The mental and emotional weight of a lifetime of quiet endurance

  • What it looks like to finally, unapologetically, choose yourself

The Cover

The cover of this book is a watercolour illustration made some years ago, at a time when the heart needed something the camera could no longer give.

My Mum had already left us. But I wanted the photograph that couldn’t exist, the three of us together. My Mum. Myself. My daughter Khushi.

So I had it painted instead.

Three generations, standing side by side.

When the book announced itself, there was only ever one image it could wear on its cover. Because that illustration is the book.

The woman who carried it quietly. The woman writing it all down. The daughter who inherits a different story.

From left: My Mum, Khushi, and Me

The Dedication

For my Mum. For always being the good girl, and for everything you carried quietly, I see it now.

And for Khushi, who will never have to carry it alone, and who never has to stay silent.
